Notifications

Choose what you're told about and where — in-app, email or Slack — with quiet hours and @mentions.

Notifications keep you in the loop without you having to go looking. You decide what you’re told about and which channel each thing comes through.

Channels

Each kind of event can reach you three ways:

  • In-app — the notification bell in Coalface.
  • Email
  • Slack — when your workspace has Slack connected.

Set your preferences in Settings → Notifications. It’s a simple grid: for each event, tick the channels you want.

What you can be notified about

Events include being assigned a task, being @mentioned in a comment, a task you created being completed, a task’s priority or due date changing, a note being added, and reminders for tasks due soon or overdue.

You’re never told about your own actions

Coalface never notifies you about something you did yourself — only about things other people (or the system) do that involve you. So marking your own task complete won’t ping you.

@mentions

Mention a teammate in a comment with @ and their name, and they get a notification. It’s the quickest way to pull someone into a specific task.

Quiet hours

Set quiet hours to hold back email notifications overnight (or whenever you choose). They’re computed in your own timezone, so they line up with your actual day — set your timezone in Settings → Locale & dates.

Due-soon and overdue reminders

These are worked out in your timezone too, so “due today” and “overdue” mean your today — see views for more on how Coalface handles dates across timezones.

The short version: in Settings → Notifications, pick which events reach you and on which channel — in-app, email or Slack. Set quiet hours for evenings, use @mentions to pull people in, and never get pinged about your own actions.
