Importing your tasks

Moving to Coalface from something else? The importer brings your existing tasks in from a CSV file, a Trello export or an Asana export. It’s the right tool for a one-off migration — a single fetch, map, preview and create.

You’ll find it under Settings → Data → Import.

Choose a source

Pick where your tasks are coming from:

• CSV / paste — any spreadsheet or exported list. The first row is your column headers.
• Trello — export a board as JSON from Trello and upload it.
• Asana — export a project as CSV from Asana and upload it.

What comes across

The importer maps as much as it can automatically:

• Lists / sections become board columns
• Members become assignees
• Due dates, descriptions and labels/tags carry over
• Checklists become subtasks

For Trello, archived cards and lists are brought in too (and counted), so nothing is silently dropped. For Asana, subtasks are matched to their parent tasks by name.

Preview before you commit

You choose the target board — an existing one, or a brand-new board created for the import — and Coalface can create any missing columns for you. You get a preview of what will be created before anything is written, so there are no surprises.

After importing

Once imported, your tasks are ordinary Coalface tasks: give them labels, set priorities, and if the board is connected to WordPress they’ll sync like any other.

The short version: go to Settings → Data → Import, pick CSV, Trello or Asana, upload your export, map and preview, then create. Columns, assignees, due dates, labels and checklists all come across.
