Create your workspace

Sign up, create your first workspace and get your first board ready in a couple of minutes.

A workspace is your home in Coalface Tasks — it holds your boards, your team and your settings. This guide takes you from signing up to a board you can start adding tasks to.

1. Create your account

Go to app.coalfacetasks.com/signup and sign up with your email address. You’ll start on the free plan — no card needed.

When you sign up, we create your first workspace for you automatically, so there’s nothing to set up before you can start.

2. Find your way around

Once you’re in, the screen has three parts:

  • The sidebar on the left lists your boards, grouped into sections. Everyone starts with a private My Boards group that only you can see.
  • The board in the middle is where your tasks live, laid out in columns.
  • The top bar holds search, your profile and — later — any extensions you switch on.

3. Create a board

A board is a single project or workstream, shown as a set of columns (for example To do, In progress, Done).

  1. In the sidebar, click + next to a group, or New board.
  2. Give it a name.
  3. It appears straight away with a few starter columns you can rename or replace.

You can rename a column by clicking its title, and add a column with the + at the end of the row.

4. Invite your team (optional)

If you’re working with other people, go to Settings → Members and invite them by email. You can set what each person can do — from full admins down to guests who only see the boards you share with them.

You don’t need to do this to get started. Coalface works just as well solo.

Next steps

The short version: sign up, and your workspace and first board are ready. Add a board, invite anyone you work with, and start adding tasks.
