Search

Coalface has two ways to search: a quick popup for finding a task in seconds, and a full search page for digging through everything.

Quick search

Press ⌘K (or Ctrl+K), or click search in the top bar, and start typing. Results appear as you type, ranked by relevance — an exact title match comes first, then titles that start with your term, then partial matches.

Quick search is the fastest way to jump to a task you know exists.

Full search

For a deeper look, open full search. As well as titles, it can search inside:

• Descriptions
• Comments
• Checklists (subtask titles)

Each of these is a toggle, so you choose how deep to look. Full search also lets you narrow by group, board and content type before you search, then refine the results live by assignee and priority without searching again.

A note on privacy

Task descriptions are encrypted at rest. When encryption is on, deep search decrypts your content securely on the server to search it — your descriptions are never stored in a searchable form in plain text. That’s why searching inside descriptions is an explicit, opt-in step rather than something that happens automatically.

Values kept in the Vault are never searched at all, by design.

Opening a result

Clicking a result opens that task’s panel directly — and the task’s link is shareable, so you can bookmark a task or send a colleague straight to it.

The short version: press ⌘K for a fast title search, or use full search to look inside descriptions, comments and checklists. Results open the task and can be linked to.
